Brev till Tamara 2001-12-10

                                                                                                             Vallentuna 2001-12-10

Dear Tamara and Vitalij!

I hope this letter will reach you and all the people of Novozybkov in good health. I have been trying to reach you through internet – your homepage is back – but young Anton doesn´t answer. Maybe he has not got any computor with internet at the moment?

Please forgive me for not writing or calling to you. I have so much to do at my work – but beside that we are working with this transport to you. Next week I will know exactly what we will be able to send – and I am with good hope that we will be able to give the Novozybkov hospital most of what you asked for. As you probably know we will have to find everything for free – someone has to give it to us as a gift. There are at the moment no money to buy such things for. But I am, as I said, with good hope.

Lions Club

Since we met in July 2000, I have been working very hard to start a Chernobyls-children-project for Novozybkov only within the Lions Club of Vallentuna. I have succeeded now and I am in charge for it. But it is just a start. Let me try to tell you a little about the Lions Club. See also the information from internet that I printed out and put in the envelope.

There is a local Lion´s Club in Vallentuna, where I live. We are about 50 members. We meet once a month, make plans and eat a good dinner. Like every other Lions Club we are working with charity in 1) Vallentuna, 2) Sweden and 3) the rest of the world.

In our district – one part of Sweden – we are 45 different Lions Clubs. In the whole country we are about 500 Lions Clubs. As you can see from the papers I hereby send you there are 44 800 clubs with 1,4 million members in 187 countries in the world. All of them work with 1) local, 2) national and 3) international projects.

That means: There is a lot of humanitarian aid to get, if we can make Novozybkov their special project – and we really are on our way! April 6th the district will discuss and hopefully decide to take Novozybkov as a special projekt. In July this – if everything work out properly – it will be a question for the whole country. After that comes Skandinavia and after that the world. Keep your fingers crossed and we will succed!

Now, what does that mean?

A Lions Club in Novozybkov

Our first step in Vallentuna Lions Club is to create a brother-Lions Club in Novozybkov. We have to have someone to correspond with that we can trust and a recieverorganization to work with. We need at least 20 honest people to be members of the Lions Club. The president of Vallentuna Lions Club and others will in time tell you how to do it.

Invitation to Sweden

I hope to be able to invite you to Vallentuna in the beginning of September, when everything is set and done. My suggestion is:
1-2. Ivan Nesterov – the head of the administration (to meet our mare) – with wife
2-4. Svetlana and Vladimir – to represent Chernobyl Union
5. Dr Yuri – the chief doctor (to study hospitals etc)
6. The priest of your church
(Since our church wants to build some sort of union with your church)
7-8 Vitalij – as responsible for the Chernobyl problems – and of course your self.
We will of course pay for your travel-costs and your costs here but we have to do it as cheep as possible. You can:
- go by train to Moscow and fly from there
- fly from Minsk or Kiev
- drive to Viborg and Helsinki in Finland and take the boat from there.
But you dont have to decide that now. Just keep it in mind.

Lars has a rather big house and I have a smaller one, so I suppose you can stay with us.

Representatives will visit Novozybkov – future help from Lions Club

After your visit to Vallentuna representatives from our community will visit Novozybkov to help you start a Lions Club. We were in fact planning to go by a special aircraft last August, but something came up and it didn´t work. I hope we are luckier this year.

We have to meet and discuss what kind of help you need in the future and – and that is important – what kind of help the Swedish people are prepared to give. I am sure we can find some good solutions.

I have a lot of  ideas:
- We can bring you a lot of medical equipment to the hospital.
- As a special project we can get you (maybe buy in Russia) multi-vitamins, since that seams to be what people in radioactive contaminated areas need. We might also be able to get you better medicin for high bloodpressure and ulcerus.
- We can try to find methods to clean areas from radioactivity
- We can get you computors to a Lion´s Internetcafe, to the school and maybe to the administration (custom?) An internetcafé can give you 2-3 new jobs.
- We can support teachers to teach children English (you need it for internet). Especially children without parents.
- Support childrens camp outside the contaminated areas.
- Support children without parents with money. A safe system is needed.
- Start an Lions Secondhand shop in Novozybkov – since Swedish people want to give second hand cloths. That could maybe give you 2-3 new jobs.

As I wrote, this is only some ideas. We have to meet and discuss the future.

We like to send you 3 incubators and over 3000 christmas-presents immediately

As I told you in the telephone we are preparing a transport. Since Nesterov asked for other medical equipment, I will search for it before I send anything. I will send you the gift letter by telefax as soon as possible. You must read it and correct me

Therefore I ask you, how shall I write the gift-letter? Do I have to give the exact number of each computor for example? In that case, it will take some time, since we have no place so deal with them. How soon do you think you can get the humanitarian-aid-paper from Moscow.

Please let me know what you think as soon as possible!
With love!
Monica
