Stockholm 2004-08-12
Your Excellency,
The
Swedish charter of the International Association of Lions Clubs would like to
extend an invitation to you to a press conference in conjunction with the visit
of our international President , the Honourable Mr Clement F. Kusiak. Mr Kusiak
will be here to hand over a donation to fund a children’s hospital
refurbishment in Novozybkov, Russia.
This
project was the brainchild of a woman called Monica Antonsson who was in
Novozybkov in 1997 and witnessed the appalling conditions under which expectant
mothers were forced to live and how the
nuclear waste’s radioactivity after the Chernobyl accident in 1986 was
affecting the residents there. She started a project called “Änglagård” and
managed to obtain a lot of support from several Lions’ members in Sweden. Her
idea was to refurbish the existing children’s hospital as well as the maternity
ward. The project caught the attention of Lions members worldwide and that is
why Lions International decided to support it. Therefore President Kusiak will
be in Stockholm to hand over USD 75 000 to the Swedish charter to be used for
the hospital.
We
have invited the press to attend on 27th August at Konferenshuset on
Drottninggatan 55 starting at 1200 noon to witness the handing over of the
money and to hear a presentation of the project. We would be very honoured if
Your Excellency or someone representing the Russian Embassy could be present.
We expect the press conference to last about one hour. A light lunch and refreshments
will be served afterwards.
Should
the Russian Embassy decide to send a representative we would require his or her
presence at 1130am for a short briefing before meeting the press.
We
would be very grateful if Your Excellency could give us a reply latest tomorrow
before lunchtime by contacting Maud Nordell at 08-98 03 62.
Thank
you for your time and we look forward to hearing from your embassy.
Yours
sincerely
Håkan
Johansson

District Council Chairman
